Peace ♡ My name is Jalila Williams, the founder and creative director of Gwiza Journey.
The word “gwee•zah” is part of my mother’s name—who is from Rwanda—and it means abundant or to have much/an abundance of. I honor my mother’s name in this legacy I’m building with the work I do because I am her wildest dream.
I am a certified Yoga instructor, breathwork guide, and sound meditation facilitator. I also love to sing, play guitar, and travel around the world. Yoga has been in my life since I was 9 years old when my dad first started doing the practice himself. Decades later, it has become a life practice of mine.
When it comes to teaching, I create experiences of different capacities. I have guided groups in sessions of movement, stillness, conversation, and silence. For years, I’ve been creating spaces where people can feel like they’re in community with others. Becoming a Yoga teacher wasn’t anything I sought out for, it was called on me because of what I was already doing out of love.
Through Gwiza Journey, I curate events, develop programs, lead classes, and facilitate workshops that all circulate around Yoga asana and nervous system regulation through meditation, breathwork and sound healing. I work with partners whose initiatives focus on building or providing accessible wellness resources for adult women—mainly aged 30 through 45—who have mental health disparities imposed on them. I am here to provide a space for us to move forward more progressively so that we can become well in our whole being. 💜
